Note from the ACDIS Director: Welcome new advisory board members

CDI Strategies - Volume 14, Issue 15

by Brian Murphy

In difficult times good leadership is critical. And in these days of uncertainty and struggle, we’re very grateful to have four very qualified individuals with a history of leadership (personal, organizational, and association/volunteer) join us as new members of the ACDIS advisory board.

ACDIS would like to welcome Jennifer Eaton, RN, MSN, CCDS, Executive Director of CDI for Enjoin; Emily Emmons, MSN, RN, CCDS, Regional Director of Clinical Documentation Integrity for Kaiser Permanente Northern California Region in Oakland, California; Susan Fantin, MSA, BSN, RN, CCDS, CDIP, Corporate Director Clinical Documentation for McLaren Health Care in Grand Blanc, Michigan; and Aimee Van Balen, RN, BSN, CCDS, Lead Clinical Documentation Specialist, Lifespan Corporate Services, Providence, Rhode Island.

These four CDI professionals took the top four spots in a popular vote of the ACDIS membership and will serve three-year terms of service running from April 2020 through the end of March 2023.

The ACDIS advisory board plays an important role in the leadership of the association. They help create industry guidance in the form of white and position papers, serve as expert voices on our quarterly conference calls, participate in panel sessions at the conference, and collaborate with other associations in the healthcare industry. They also provide advice and guidance on matters of governance of the ACDIS membership.

In case you missed some of the great work being done by members of the advisory board, please check out the thought leadership section of our website. There you’ll find five recent papers in our ongoing provider engagement series. These include two position papers explaining the concept of provider engagement and how it is measured in CDI terms:

And three case studies, with lessons straight from organizations that you can implement in your own hospital:

We welcome our four new board members and believe they will help us do more great work in service of the CDI profession in the coming years. You can read more about their backgrounds on our advisory board page. Thank you to all our members who took the time to cast their vote in the election.

We also wish the best to outgoing board members Deanne Wilk, Katy Good, Susan Schmitz, and Angie Curry, who recently completed three-year terms of service on the board. Angie recently wrote us a nice farewell letter which you can read here. Thank you for your service Deanne, Katy, Susan, and Angie!

Take care everyone and stay healthy.
