Note from the ACDIS Editor: Find CDI expansion opportunities in the new CDI Journal edition!

CDI Strategies - Volume 18, Issue 10

by Jess Fluegel

As the CDI profession becomes more recognized for its worth in the healthcare sphere, doors of all kinds are opening for expansion. Organizations are asking their CDI departments to take on new responsibilities and delve into areas not traditionally part of a CDI professional’s skillset, some already with great success. While outpatient CDI is certainly one of those doors, there is a whole mansion of possibilities awaiting your program in new, “nontraditional” areas of healthcare!

In the new edition of the CDI Journal, we put a magnifying glass over CDI and how it’s changing and expanding in 2024. With excellent advice from our guest contributors about everything from social determinants of health to achieving organizational change to outpatient CDI efforts, and two feature-length articles on pediatric CDI and inpatient versus outpatient workflows, there is certain to be an article or three that gives you more insight on the opportunities and niche topics growing more prevalent for the profession and your place in it.

In this edition, readers will find articles about:

This edition also includes our regular Meet a Member feature to offer advice directly from a CDI professional in the ACDIS community.

The ACDIS team hopes you enjoy this latest edition and find something helpful in its pages. As always, the CDI Journal is a benefit of ACDIS membership. To learn more about joining ACDIS, click here. ACDIS members can earn one CCDS/CCDS-O CEU for reading each edition of the Journal and taking the associated quiz. You can learn more on the full edition download page.

Our next edition’s topic will be collaboration and engagement, and we’re very excited to collaborate with writers for it! Contributing to the CDI Journal is a great opportunity for CDI professionals to share insight with the community, plus you can receive 0.5 CEUs per 350 published words (articles tend to be around the 750-1,500-word mark). If you have experience to impart and/or advice to give on collaboration between CDI and other departments, increasing engagement with staff or providers, or another related topic, we’d love to receive your submission. The deadline for the May/June edition is April 1, 2024! You can send your submissions to me at jess.fluegel@hcpro.com and Associate Editorial Director Linnea Archibald at linnea.archibald@hcpro.com.

We hope this edition helps you in your next CDI endeavor, no matter the setting or review area it may be in. Please reach out to me if you have any questions or are interested in writing for our next Journal edition!
