Note from the ACDIS Editor: Much Ado About ACDIS

CDI Strategies - Volume 17, Issue 16

Editor’s note: Joshua Raposa is a new associate editor for ACDIS, which is based in Middleton, Massachusetts. As a lover of stories and literature in general, he deemed it necessary to introduce himself via poetic limerick. Any shortcomings of CDI knowledge and poetic form are those of the author and are in no way representative of ACDIS as an organization. Contact Raposa at jraposa@acdis.org.

Twas’ the 15th of March when the “checks” were a’done,
N’ Joshua Raposa joined in the fun:
To edit, to write, to read, n’ to learn,
The CDI world ‘til a day had adjourned.

What I have seen, I make plain to you,
Yet make no mistake: my work is not through.
Ah! So much to say, in so little of time:
A mountain of data, such steepness to climb.

To start with disease: a bundle of fun,
Congestive heart failure, a hoot bar none.
Nutrition is serious, so make sure ye eat,
The healthiest foods ye find on the street.

Sepsis (our love) is in various forms:
Like normal and shocking, severe like a storm.
Recall the criteria important to note:
Tachycardia n’ fever are nothing to gloat.

If the guria’ is cute n’ the ileus be present,
The organs are failin’ n’ SOFA is imminent!
Note these diseases: they speak in a code,
But ICD-10 can decipher their load.

Ye must learn the lingo, if ye wish to succeed,
Like IPPS n’ those CERTs.
FCA, yes! Ye must know, for sure,
Beware of the audit: prepare for the war!

Adjusting your risk is no easy task,
But HCCs can help if ye ask.
Imbursing a hospital is necessary,
So, keep all the specialists joyful n’ merry:

Relate all the Groups by their relative weight,
N’ multiply by the hospital’s rate.
Let’s move onto queries, a most crucial part,
Be wary of leading right from the start.

Check for the murky, the doctor’s vice,
Ambiguous, Inc., n’ imprecise.
Make sure the record is thoro’ n’ clean,
No conflicts or nothing: completely pristine.

But so much to say, in so little of time:
A mountain of data, such steepness to climb.
What I have seen, I have made plain to ye,
Yet make no mistake: my work is not free.

Work for the ACDIS, this I will do,
To read n’ to write n’ to work with the crew!
Grateful I am to work with this team,
Ye genuine n’ kind, this I can glean.

Twas’ the 15th of March when the “checks” were a’done,
N’ Joshua Raposa joined in the fun:
But now tis’ April, a bit past the start,
With a CDI world out there to chart.

So, I bid you a “soon,” not saying “goodbye,”
Just be sure to Simplify fore’ you Comply!
