Note from the Associate Editor: Tell us your article ideas

CDI Strategies - Volume 14, Issue 30

by Carolyn Riel

One of my favorite things about working for ACDIS is talking with so many knowledgeable people about their CDI programs, careers, and personal experiences for our CDI Journal articles.

The past two weeks I’ve had the pleasure of talking with lots of folks for the upcoming edition of the Journal on the topic of leadership skills and career opportunities. Some articles I’m working on include pieces about professional development and career ladders, getting started working in CDI, unique CDI job positions, and keeping engaged virtually with providers and team members during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Every person I talk to brings their own unique energy and take on the topics, and I find myself learning something new that I wouldn’t have even thought about before. Whether it’s sharing about a specific rung of a career ladder for an IT/CDI liaison or hearing a hiring manager describe the most successful person in their department during an interview, there is always something that makes me say, “oh wow, I wouldn’t have thought that!”

With that being said, even as I’m still working on writing for the September/October edition of the Journal, we are already gearing up for the November/December edition which will take us to the last issue of the year. (Crazy that we’re already looking at the end of this nutty year, isn’t it?)

The theme of the November/December edition is denials and clinical validation, a topic I personally love learning about as someone who doesn’t have a clinical background. We are still gearing up and thinking of specific article topics that fit into this theme and are always open to ideas! If you or someone you know has a topic idea related to denials or clinical validation or has a particularly vast understanding of this theme, reach out to me (criel@acdis.org) and ACDIS Editor Linnea Archibald (larchibald@acdis.org). We would love to hear from you and chat with you about your experiences.
