Note from the Associate Editorial Director: Lend your expertise, build a better ACDIS

CDI Strategies - Volume 18, Issue 2

by Linnea Archibald

Did you know that ACDIS is supported by an advisory board and eight volunteer committees? Across all those groups, there are nearly 100 CDI professionals who volunteer their time and expertise for the betterment of the ACDIS and CDI community. The simple truth is that ACDIS would not be the association it is without the help of these individuals.

Because we want the board and committees to best represent the needs and demographic makeup of the broader community, bringing forward new ideas and enthusiasm, we open a volunteer call twice a year. Right now, those interested in getting involved in any of the following groups can apply until February 2, 2024:

  • The ACDIS Advisory Board: Provides collective leadership, expertise, and written guidance for the ACDIS membership and the broader CDI profession through individual work on specific projects (e.g., joint authorship of white papers and position papers), group discussion, and oversight and review of the work of sub-committees and conference presenters. Note: this year, the board has openings for one individual from a physician background, one individual from an HIM background, and five individuals from a clinical background. Finalists for the ACDIS Advisory Board will be subject to a vote by the ACDIS membership in spring 2024.
  • The Chapter Advisory Committee: Its members serve as liaisons between local chapter leaders and ACDIS national administration by participating on chapter leadership conference calls, promoting best practice, and providing guidance to leaders across the country.
  • Resource Library Committee: Reviews materials donated to the ACDIS community for publication in the Resource Library for accuracy, compliance, relevance, and effectiveness.

If you’re on the fence about applying or unsure which group to apply for, here are a few questions to ask yourself:

  • Do you enjoy writing best practice and discussing the topics more pressing to today’s CDI professional? If yes, consider applying to the ACDIS Advisory Board.
  • Do you have a heart for the local CDI community and seeing local connections thrive? If yes, consider applying to the Chapter Advisory Committee.
  • Do you love developing templates, educating your peers, and systematizing CDI practice? If yes, consider applying to the Resource Library Committee.

If any of these pique your curiosity, I hope you’ll consider applying by clicking here or pasting this URL into your web browser: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/January-2024-Committees. You can learn more about all these groups on the “Boards & Committees” page of the ACDIS website.

Don’t see a committee that suits your unique skills and interests? Stay tuned: Several more committees will open for volunteers in June!
