Note from the Editorial Manager: New tip sheet for physician advisors, plus take our survey!

We wear a lot of hats here at ACDIS. Whether we’re editing books, writing journal articles, researching the latest regulatory updates, or planning the year’s biggest party, we like to have our hands in all the cookie jars. One of my personal favorite hats to wear is chair of the ACDIS Physician Advisor Committee because I never leave a meeting without learning something new. Physician advisors are a growing component of the CDI world, so hearing from them directly allows me to view CDI through another lens while continuing to grow my knowledge base.

Recognizing that the physician advisor’s role is always evolving, our physician advisor committee seeks to provide up-to-date resources to those working this unique position. Today, I’m proud to share the first in a series of tip sheets and case studies written by the 2024–2025 ACDIS Physician Advisor Committee! Designed for both new and experienced physician advisors, each resource in this series offers tips focused on a specific topic. Our first tip sheet delves into mortality, providing:

• An explanation of the observed-to-expected (O/E) mortality ratio
• A case example demonstrating how specificity impacts the chart (and expected mortality)
• Quick tips for accurately capturing mortality O/E
