Director’s Note: Quarterly call today, physician advisor survey closes tomorrow, September deadline for 2012 speaker proposals

CDI Strategies - Volume 5, Issue 17

Conference call
The next quarterly conference call for ACDIS members is scheduled for Thursday, August 18, from 1-2 p.m. ET. ACDIS members should have received their dial-in instructions via e-mail. To access the call, dial the toll-free number, and enter the password/guest code. If you did not receive these instructions e-mail ACDIS Director Brian Murphy at bmurphy@cdiassociation.com. Due to heavy call volume, we recommend that you dial in 10 minutes early. If you cannot attend the call, we will provide a digital recording for download on our Web site.

Survey deadline
Also, as a reminder the 12-question 2011 Physician Advisor Benchmarking Survey will close tomorrow, Friday, August 19, at 5 p.m. There have been 270 respondents so far but the greater the participation the more informative the analysis. Please take a moment to participate in the survey as we investigate the roles and responsibilities of physician advisors in your facilities. The results will be shared with ACDIS members in a special report.

Speaker proposals
We are currently seeking speakers to present at the 2012 ACDIS fifth Annual Conference, to be held May 10-11, 2012 at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego. We seek speakers to present on all aspects of clinical documentation and encourage case studies of successful programs. Here is a list of suggested topics that would make great conference sessions:
  • Career ladder for CDI specialists: Motivation and recruitment strategies
  • ICD-10: Implementation plans and diagnosis and query specifics
  • Healthgrades and physician report cards: Specifics on navigating websites
  • Complex chart review situations
  • Value-Based Purchasing and/or Accountable Care Organizations
  • Mismatches with coding/coding conflicts: Experienced inpatient coders welcomed as presenters
  • Legal issues in CDI: Speakers with legal background/credentials preferred.
  • RAC defense and appeals
  • Metrics: How CDI can impacts quality outcomes, not just CMI
  • Physician buy-in: Creative examples of increasing physician participation
  • CDI in other settings—LTAC, outpatient, ED/observation, other units/settings
  • Updates to the IPPS, MS-DRGs, CC/MCC lists
  • Reviewing for quality measures/AHRQ
  • Physician/NP/PA presenters on specific diagnoses or complex cases
  • Challenges of EHR, specifically electronic querying
If you don't see your hot topic listed here, please write and let us know what expertise you can bring to the podium. Please click this link, complete the form, and submit it to us no later than September 23, 2011. Please be sure to complete all the fields.
