Note from the ACDIS Editor: Engage yourself in the newest CDI Journal!
by Jess Fluegel
When spring shows her dewy face, an undeniable phenomenon occurs—birds begin to nest, relationships blossom, and wedding venues are booked out for the foreseeable future. Flu season, at last, has (mostly) given up the ghost. With sunnier, more positive outlooks felt by all, a CDI program may also benefit from this “spring fever” in their own efforts to engage with other departments and providers at their organization. That’s why we selected the topic of “engagement and collaboration” for the May/June edition of the CDI Journal!
Engagement with departments and provider groups may not come with a new sparkly diamond ring (wouldn’t that be nice?), but it is the mark of a healthy long-term relationship and will likely lead to more successful and smoothly running CDI efforts. And that should start in your very own department—a topic covered in this edition’s feature article, which focuses on how to engage with CDI staff, as well as a case study on how to start and make the most of a CDI mentorship relationship. With a special note from the ACDIS Interim Director Laurie Prescott on the topic of collaboration to enjoy, a guest article about one organization’s journey cultivating engagement, and more, your dance card is about to fill up with all sorts of ideas to make connections in your CDI efforts!
In this edition, readers will find articles about:
- Employee engagement in CDI
- A recap of the 2024 ACDIS national conference
- How to bolster success with CDI mentorships
- How to collaborate and contribute to organizational success
- CDI and the reconciliation process
- Achieving a five-star organization with a focus on collaboration and engagement
- Physician advisor roles across departments
- Severe malnutrition and morbid obesity
This edition also includes our regular Meet a Member feature to offer advice directly from a CDI professional in the ACDIS community.
The ACDIS team hopes you enjoy this latest edition and find something helpful in its pages. As always, the CDI Journal is a benefit of ACDIS membership. To learn more about joining ACDIS, click here. ACDIS members can earn one CCDS/CCDS-O CEU for reading each edition of the Journal and taking the associated quiz. You can learn more on the full edition download page.
Our next edition’s topic will be denials management and appeals, which has been a topic ever-growing in prevalence for the CDI industry! Contributing to the CDI Journal is a great opportunity for CDI professionals to share insight with the community, plus you can receive 0.5 CEUs per 350 published words (articles tend to be around the 750-1,500-word mark). If you have advice to share on CDI and denials management, how to write an appeal, or another related topic, we’d love to receive your submission. The deadline for the July/August edition is June 1, 2024! You can send your submissions to me at jess.fluegel@hcpro.com and Associate Editorial Director Linnea Archibald at linnea.archibald@hcpro.com.
We hope this edition helps you to foster better collaboration at your organization and make your own kind of engagement announcement! Please reach out to me if you have any questions or are interested in writing for our next Journal edition.
