ACDIS update: New ACDIS white paper on CDI ethics out now!

CDI Strategies - Volume 20, Issue 11

As CDI evolves and matures, it is critical that compliant and ethical documentation practices are not only taught but safeguarded. Members of the ACDIS Advisory Board have released a new white paper: “Safeguarding ethical documentation practices in querying, peer-to-peer discussion, and technological initiatives.” Access to white papers is a benefit of ACDIS membership, so members can access this new publication in the “White Papers” section under the “Member Resources” tab in the main website menu.

The paper details responsibility for documentation clarification now extends beyond traditional CDI teams to include other professionals, which brings both the diffusion of responsibility but also the risk of professionals without formal training in compliant query practices inadvertently making ethical missteps. In addition, the paper considers the role of AI-driven tools and how efficiency gains must not mean sacrificing documentation integrity through governance frameworks.

Ultimately, the paper addresses three critical areas:

  1. The distinction between queries and peer-to-peer conversations
  2. Ethical violations and compliant documentation practices
  3. Governance considerations for AI and technology-driven documentation solutions

Addressing areas of compliance risk and ethical concern, as well as offering guidance for professionals regarding documentation practices, this white paper seeks to support the strategic importance of CDI white offering clear means of safeguarding ethical practices.

Note: ACDIS white papers are a benefit of ACDIS membership. White papers discuss best practices, advance new ideas, increase knowledge, or offer suggestions for administrative simplification. These papers are peer reviewed and can be written by members of the ACDIS Advisory Board or external sources. ACDIS members can read ACDIS white papers here.
