CDI Strategies - Volume 20, Issue 13

by Karla Kozak

According to ACDIS’ 2025 Understanding the Physician Advisor Role Survey, 53.57% of respondents have been in their physician advisor/champion role for five years or less, pointing to just how new the physician advisor to CDI position is. Additionally, while 22.32% of respondents reported that less than 25% of their time is dedicated to physician advisor responsibilities, 26.79% reported that 100% of their time is dedicated to the very same. This gap demonstrates how much the structure of the physician advisor role varies across organizations.

To better understand these nuances and how the role continues to grow, ACDIS has opened its 2026 Understanding the Physician Advisor Role Survey. Whether you’re a full-time physician advisor, a part-time physician advisor with an additional leadership role, or a physician champion, we want to hear from you!

The survey is easy to complete and will only take a few moments of your time. In it, we’ll ask you to share information related to:

•            Primary CDI responsibilities
•            Reporting structure
•            Metrics and return on investment
•            Provider education efforts
•            Artificial intelligence use
•            Contracting and denials

All responses will remain anonymous, and any results shared will be in aggregate. This data will allow us to evaluate how ACDIS can best serve physician advisors through both resources like our physician advisor tip sheets and products including our Physician Advisor Boot Camp, which offers the ACDIS Physician Advisor Certificate to graduates.

Not a physician advisor? You can still help us gather this valuable data by sharing the survey with physician advisors and champions in your department!
