AI, Metrics, and Denials Prevention: 2026 ACDIS Leadership Council Findings

Today’s CDI leaders are often tasked with a seemingly insurmountable list of responsibilities and tasks to support the overall mission of their organization. To take out this mountain, they must leverage their tools—human and technological—to show their impact and to protect their organizations from the ever-increasing influx of denials.

In collaboration with SmarterDx, ACDIS issued a survey in January 2026 to members of the ACDIS CDI Leadership Council to gauge the ways CDI programs are making a difference for their organizations and shaping their practice in response to shifting priorities. The survey gathered data on the current state of artificial intelligence (AI) and staffing, leadership buy-in and meaningful metrics, and denials prevention and mitigation.

Now, ACDIS is pleased to partner again with SmarterDx to share the results of this survey with the broader CDI community and highlight the implications for all CDI professionals—both those in leadership and staff-level positions.
