ACDIS update: What sepsis criteria are you using?
It seems that each month, there’s news about sepsis in CDI. Whether it be changing definitions (hello, sepsis-3) or sequencing guidelines, CDI professionals know that when it comes to sepsis, the ground is often unstable.
As with any troublesome diagnoses, having a set of criteria accepted and used at your facility can help with formulating queries and educational efforts. But, choosing which sepsis criteria to use can be a bit of a toss-up. Plus, using particular sepsis criteria could open you up to denials with CMS still using sepsis-2 criteria officially and many third-party payers using sepsis-3.
In order to take the pulse of the CDI community, ACDIS recently published a polling question probing the prevalence of various sepsis criteria. The answer options include:
- Sepsis-2
- Sepsis-3
- A facility-specific set of criteria
- Not applicable
Please take a moment to respond to our quick poll. It’s a great way to spend your next coffee break and the results will be shared with the ACDIS community to help you clear some of the sepsis criteria fog.
