Note from the ACDIS Editor: New CDI Journal edition tackles the complexity of CDI success
by Jess Fluegel
Once upon a time, capturing CCs/MCCs took up a majority—if not the entirety—of CDI’s focus. But, over the years, CDI reviewers and programs at large have expanded far beyond the initial scope of tracking DRG movement, even though financial impact remains important.
As CDI programs dive deeper into the complexity of improving documentation integrity, it only makes sense that measuring the success of those ventures has grown more complex as well. To help you navigate both program and personal benchmarks, balance and adjust your expectations, and set goals in new areas with confidence, we’ve dedicated the March/April edition of the CDI Journal to topics focused on measuring your personal and departmental success in CDI.
In this edition, readers will find articles about:
- Using your ‘YOU’ to find success in CDI
- The recipe for success when developing new KPIs
- Bringing the best of your background to CDI
- The role of a CDI data analyst
- Evaluating complexity of care for MDD
- Communicating the value of CDI to key stakeholders
- The question of who determines diagnoses in a health record
- How to set meaningful and measurable expectations
- A physician advisor’s perspective on measuring CDI success
The ACDIS team hopes you enjoy this latest edition and find something helpful in its pages. As a reminder, the CDI Journal is a benefit of ACDIS membership. Additionally, writing for the CDI Journal is a great opportunity for CDI professionals to expand their knowledge and showcase their professional discoveries. Our next edition’s topic will be all about innovation in CDI! If you have experience to share and/or advice to give on innovation in CDI, specifically when it comes to expansion, technology, and workflow (or another related topic), we’d love to receive your submission. Contributors published in the Journal receive 0.5 CEUs per 350 published words, and articles tend to be around the 750-1,500-word mark. The deadline for the May/June edition is April 1, 2025!
We hope this edition helps you better measure your personal and departmental CDI efforts, as well as understand both traditional and nontraditional indicators of success. Please reach out to me if you have any questions or are interested in writing for our next Journal edition!
