Local chapter update: Allow time for chapter business meetings

CDI Strategies - Volume 14, Issue 6

When planning a local chapter event, be sure to allow for 30 minutes or more if needed after the last educational presenter to have a chapter business meeting. This is particularly important in the early stages of the chapter’s inception as well as later when the group takes on ever more formality.

In the early stages, these meetings will help the volunteer leaders gauge interest in participation, assess information needs, identify meeting structure and frequency preferences, and allow the participants to simply get to one another better.

Later, these informational meetings will serve as a vital means toward ensuring transparency allowing all participants to understand the behind-the-scenes efforts of the volunteer leadership team.

During this meeting the leadership team can:

  • Collect information regarding future volunteer hosts and presenters
  • Identify attendees needs and educational interests
  • Discuss any recent policy or procedure changes
  • Review leadership activities for transparency
  • Present related news and developments from national
  • Review any related financial activities or use

An evaluation form can be passed out at the beginning of the meeting and collected during this time. A sample evaluation form is available from ACDIS and copies can be printed and brought to the event. These evaluation forms can be helpful to assess the success and opportunities for the team.

The following is a list of upcoming events for ACDIS local chapters. If you have an upcoming event you would like to include, please email Melissa Varnavas (mvarnavas@acdis.org) and Carolyn Riel (criel@acdis.org).
